according to an article posted in variety, the popular abc series lost will end it's run during the 2009-2010 season.

in other surprising news, after the season 3 finale (which airs later this month) the show will produce 48 more episodes, which will air over three shortened 16-episode seasons.

producers damon lindelof and carlton cuse only wanted the show to continue for two more seasons (which is equivalent to the 48 episodes over three years).
